Before going to EMP, take a trip to the Seattle Art Museum, also for free the first Thursday of the month (all day). Access to special exhibits included in this free admission, so save your $15 general admission plus whatever they are asking for the current special exhibit and just go the first Thursday of any month.
I find these free museum trips to be really handy during summer or spring breaks for the kids. =)
